I want to work in a diner...?

I need some advice and insight for those of you who have experience in the restaurant industry. What is your daily experience like? How are the interviews set up? Are there any other tasks you do besides waiting on tables? What kind of environment do you work in? Fast paced? Packed? Busy? What should I expect? Advice and insight is appreciated.
